There was concern over the condition of existing wall ties and whether they were providing sufficient support for the brick cladding panels onto the concrete nibs at each floor level of this concrete frame car park.

The brick panels needed to be rapidly and cost-effectively secured whilst causing the minimum disruption.

Acting as main contractor, TRAC undertook the initial structural survey, using rope access techniques, for project engineers Stirling Maynard Construction Consultants and identified the problem. Helifix then designed a suitable repair involving a combination of DryFix and ResiTie remedial ties and TRAC undertook the installation programme from suspended cradles.

The ties were installed in a triangular arrangement to provide a truss-like action that would ensure both vertical and lateral support for the cladding. No taking down and rebuilding was required and the car park remained open throughout the contract.
